Ina Loewenberg Virtual Event- A Woman, Thinking

Event date:
Wednesday, May 29, 2024 - 7:00pm

Former Iowa Citian Ina Loewenberg will read from her new poetry collection, A Woman, Thinking, in a special virtual event with Prairie Lights on Zoom!  Register for this event HERE.

In A Woman, Thinking, Loewenberg explores her life-long passion for poetry.  She wrote a large number of these collected poems in the first decade of this century when she founded and led the poetry-reading group, Reading Aloud, at the Iowa City Senior Center.  Other poems were born out of the isolation felt during the pandemic, reckoning with aging, and adjusting to life after the loss of her husband after almost 70 years of marriage.  A few of the poems have been written since Loewenberg's move from Iowa City to a senior residence in Connecticut and are inspired by new people and experiences there.
Ina Perlstein (Loewenberg) was born in New York City in 1931. She earned a BA in philosophy from Cornell University and an MA degree in philosophy from the University of Massachusetts. She taught philosophy at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, and later on completed an MA in accounting at the University of Iowa. Loewenberg worked as a Financial Systems Analyst at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and while there, Project Art at UIHC inspired Loewenberg to begin work in photography which she continued to pursue after her retirement. Her photography led her to publish The View from 70: Women’s Recollections and Reflections, photographic portraits and life stories of 42 women born in her birth year, 1931, and a memoir, A Life á la Carte. She now lives in Connecticut,  where she continues to write.
